Welcome
New here? Start with this, a short guide to what The Practical Philo is, and where to begin.
If you’ve landed here, you’re probably tired of recycled “stoic mindset” content and want the real thing: applied Stoicism, read seriously and put to use. This is a quick orientation what this is, and the best places to begin.
Start with the four ideas

Marcus Aurelius
The emperor who wrote only to himself.

Memento Mori
Remember you will die, to sharpen how you live.

Seneca
The rich Stoic who wrote about simplicity.

Stoicism
What it is, and four things it is not.
Four practices to begin with
Stoicism is something you do, not just read. Four exercises to start today:
- The dichotomy of control. Separate what’s up to you from what isn’t, and invest only in the first. → Stoicism
- Memento mori. Keep your mortality in view to put the day in proportion. → Memento Mori
- Negative visualisation (premeditatio malorum). Briefly picture losing what matters, so you stop taking it for granted.
- Stoic journaling. A few minutes morning and evening the practice Marcus Aurelius literally left us. → Marcus Aurelius
